I- New York Congress website is up and running. Visit it today and register

www.aahpo.org/amwc09 is functioning. PLEASE BE AWARE AND ACT ACCORDINGLY AS OF TODAY AND NOW. All those who have decided to attend the New York Congress and have not yet reserved their rooms and registered to the Congress, must do it now, that is BEFORE FEBRUARY 1, 2009, if they want to take advantage of the special rates. When you visit the website, you will find on the right side the AMWC09 logo. Click on it and another button "Register now" will appear. Click on it and you will be able to register; same thing for the hotel. The special rate for the hotel rooms is US $ 255/night. The special registration rate for the Congress is US $ 600. Different rates exist according to some categories/specialties. The site gives you the details. If you reserve your rooms and register to the Congress after February 1, the special negotiated rate (for the hotel rooms) is subject to limited availability and you can end up paying more, and the registration rate will go up. Also do not forget to register to the special events, if family members are accompanying you.

The Congress is to be an exciting event in an exciting city! It is the time and place to be from July 1 – 4, 2009!

II- The "Subspecialty Day" on Wednesday July 1.

Some of you should already be in New York on the morning of July 1. Please read below the reasons why.

The 2009 AMWC Scientific Committee is implementing a "Subspecialty Day", to begin on Wednesday, July 1, one day before the official start of the Congress on Thursday, July 2.

Confirmed meetings include the fields of Nursing, Anaesthesia, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics and Dentistry, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy. An Urology meeting has been proposed as well.

The purposes of the Subspecialty Day include:

1) Increasing the appeal of the meeting to specialists who might not otherwise attend the general AMIC meeting;

2) Attract non-Armenian health care providers to our cause who otherwise would have performed volunteer work elsewhere (i.e. South America or Nepal, etc.). In this regard, the Armenian Eye Care Project is a wonderful example of non-Armenian experts actively traveling to our Homeland to transfer state of the art skills;

3) Foster communication among specialists who otherwise would not have the opportunity to share ideas;

4) Advance the knowledge of interested students in Armenia via webcasts and/or DVD recordings of the meetings;

5) Allow sub-specialists the opportunity to discuss issues specific to their field that would otherwise not fit into the AMIC program;

6) Avoid the conflicts of past meetings where groups of like minded specialists held meetings simultaneous to ongoing AMWC meetings, therefore depriving themselves the opportunity to mix and mingle with other attendees and hear other ideas which might benefit their projects;

7) Fulfill an AMIC mission and personal goal of President Avedis Bogosyan, MD, to enlist more specialists to help our Motherland;

8) Offer four to six category 1 continuing education credits.

The 2009 AMWC Scientific Committee understands that the concept of a “Sub-specialty Day” represents something that is new and novel to the AMIC Congress historical format. However, many of us have attended meetings like this for our specialty academy meetings and we are very excited about giving this idea a try. We are hopeful that Subspecialty day will attract the specialists and ancillary personnel who otherwise would not attend the AMWC meeting and we trust that these new attendees will energize our laudable cause with new blood and new ideas!

We are open to adding an additional subspecialty meeting. Below is a list of the specialties and the leaders of the meetings already planned:

An Urology meeting has also been discussed and we may announce an organizer soon.

www.aahpo.org/amwc09 foncionne. FAITES ATTENTION ET AGISSEZ EN CONSÉQUENCE DÈS AUJOURD’HUI, TOUT DE SUITE MÊME. Tous ceux et celles qui ont décidé de participer au Congrès et n’ont pas encore réservé leurs chambres d’hôtel et ne se sont pas inscrits au Congrès, doivent le faire maintenant, c'est-à-dire AVANT LE 1^ER FÉVRIER, 2009, s’ils veulent profiter des taux préférentiels. Quand vous allez sur le site Internet, vous trouverez le logo AMWC09 à droite. Cliquez et vous verrez apparaître "Register now", qui veut dire "Inscrivez-vous maintenant". Cliquez et vous pourrez vous inscrire. Pareil pour l’hôtel qui a son propre bouton d’annonce. Les taux spéciaux pour les chambres d’hôtel sont de 255 dollars US/nuitée, et de 600 dollars US pour l’inscription au Congrès. Des taux différents existent selon des catégories/spécialités; vous en trouverez les détails sur le site. Si vous réservez vos chambres après le 1^er Février, ce prix spécial sera sujet à la disponibilité des chambres et vous pourriez finir par payer plus. Quant à l’inscription au Congrès, vous devrez débourser plus. Si des membres de votre famille vous accompagnent, n’oubliez pas de les inscrire aux événements sociaux qui sont prévus.

Le Congrès s’annonce comme un événement sensationnel dans une ville sensationnelle! New York est l’endroit où il faut se trouver entre le 1^er et 4 juillet 2009

II – La "Journée des Sous-Spécialités, le mercredi 1^er juillet

Certains parmi vous devraient être à New York le matin du 1^er juillet. Veuillez en lire les raisons ci-dessous.

Le Comité Scientifique du Congrès organise une "journée des sous-spécialités", qui débutera le mercredi 1^er juillet, un jour avant le début du Congrès, fixé pour le jeudi 2 juillet. Les rencontres déjà confirmées incluent les Soins Infirmiers, l’Anesthésie, l’Ophtalmologie, la Pédiatrie, les Soins Dentaires, la Physiothérapie, et la Pharmacie. Une rencontre des urologues pourrait être ajoutée bientôt.

L’organisation de cette journée de sous-spécialités poursuit les objectifs suivants :

1) Attirer des spécialistes qui pourraient autrement ne pas participer au Congrès.

2) Attirer des professionnels de la santé non-Arméniens et leur faire connaître notre cause; sinon ils se porteraient volontaires et bénévoles ailleurs comme en Amérique du Sud ou au Népal par exemple. À cet égard, le Programme des Soins Ophtalmologiques en est un bon exemple puisque des spécialistes non-Arméniens sont attirés vers l’Arménie et y transmettent leur savoir-faire et leur compétence.

3) Créer une ambiance de communication entre des spécialistes qui autrement n’en auraient pas l’occasion.

4) Faire faire des progrès aux étudiants d’Arménie via des transmissions par Internet et des films DVD de nos rencontres.

5) Avoir de longues discussions sur des sous-spécialités qui ne pourraient pas se faire dans des rencontres de l’AMIC.

6) Quand ces rencontres se déroulent simultanément aux séances du Congrès, elles privent les sous-spécialistes de leur participation aux séances du Congrès lui-même.

7) Réaliser les objectifs de l’AMIC et de son président Dr. Avedis Bogosyan, et d’attirer des spécialistes dans les rangs de l’AMIC

8) Offrir des crédits d’éducation continue à ces sous spécialistes.

Les membres du comité scientifique du Congrès de 2009 savent que ce concept de la journée de sous-spécialistes est une innovation par rapport au cadre traditionnel des Congrès de l’AMIC. Néanmoins, nombreux sont les collègues qui participent à des rencontres de leurs spécialités, et cette nouvelle approche nous paraît très intéressante. Nous espérons qu’elles vont attirer de nombreux spécialistes qui autrement ne seraient pas venus à New York peut-être. Leurs idées et leur enthousiasme sont les bienvenus! Nous accueillerons avec joie d’autres sous-spécialités que vous voudriez ajouter. Veuillez lier plus bas la liste des spécialités et des personnes en charge de chaque spécialité :
